Montreal bans pitbulls and pitbull style dogs
Its all over my FB feed, people are outraged by this ban by Montreal and it seems there are a lot of dogs on their way to NS to be rescued from this predicament.
It made me wonder.... what do you do if you live in a province with BSL and its your dog type/breed that's involved... would you move provinces just to make sure your dog is safe?

I would leave the province or city if a breed ban was passed and I had the breed in question.
It's unlikely our breed would make any govt ban list, but her breed is on some rental management companies ban list.

They are fighting dogs. The ban seems not only sensible, but over due.

Note to provincial governments, if you don't want wankers living in your province pass a ban on these horrible dogs.

I agree
It has certainly helped in the UK, not just pit bulls but other nominated fighting breeds covered by the Dangerous Dogs act. Obviously as has been discussed previously at length, any dog can be dangerous, they are an animal with big teeth and often powerful jaws but certain breeds are notorious.
I thankfully would never be in the position of owning a pitbull or similarly aggressive dog so tricky to say what I would do. If my own dogs became aggressive I would tackle that behaviour vigorously and if the problem persisted then I might need to take decisive "action" before the authorities did.

Somewhat humorous video a vet did on the ban.

I think maybe instead of banning breeds, there should be a register and an application process for people that would like to own these supposed dangerous breeds.
My neighbour's rescued a pit bull, they are not my kind of dog, not enough fluff. Buttercup was a street dog and unsocialised, her owners have turned a fearful standoffish dog into a loving family pet, my daughter dog sits for them, Buttercup, has lovely manners.
In some States Chow's are banned by apartment complexes, campgrounds, towns etc. I have two of these love bugs, it would break my heart if Chow's ever made it to the dangerous dogs lists. I would do everything I could to keep them safe.

Things our Pitbull is:
1) Incredibly affectionate (and cries if he doesn't get hugs of a morning),
2) happy to see us 24/7,
3) liable to eat shoes (so far a pair of Uggs, a high-heel) and socks,
4) typically found asleep on the couch, with a blanket.
5) deathly afraid of bras & plastic bags (no clue. seriously),
6) not against me dancing with him. Think he just puts up with me though, as he sighs alot.
Things our Pitbull isn't:
1) able to use the bathroom,
2) able to answer the phone,
3) dangerous.

Why the hell do owners butcher these dogs poor ears? I have never understood the attraction to pit bulls.

This is a surprisingly coming from you. You usually are more thoughtful when it comes to things like this.
Also, whether you agree with breed specific bans or not, the montreal legislation is very draconian and makes it very difficult to grandfather in peoples existing pets (it's pretty much a death sentence for those in rescues).
I suspect that it will turn out to be unconstitutional as I've read that it includes the right for enforcement officers to enter peoples homes without a warrant.

Re: Montreal bans pitbulls and pitbull style dogs
There are two types of pit bull owners.
Those that think pit bulls are nice cuddly creatures that rate alongside My Little Pony and Care Bears, and will only snarl and bare teeth at casual passers by just to show how affectionate they can be.
Then there are those who think that pit pulls think like they do and like to frighten the s**t out of everyone else, including themselves, just because it's allowed.
If tyranosaurs were not extinct, there'd be those who'd argue that keeping one in the townhouse next door would be a neighbourly thing to do to keep little kiddies safe from all those other other predators out there.... yum yum.

Re: Montreal bans pitbulls and pitbull style dogs
There are two types of dog owners. Good, and bad! In general terms I believe that with the odd exception, their are no bad dogs, simply bad owners. Unfortunately, the more socially inadequate individual has access to certain breeds of dog, and by there conduct, encourage the animal to be aggressive and subsequently dangerous to other dogs (and people). Just an opinion. I fully appreciate that people can be intimidated or are fearful of being in proximity of those breeds however, be more fearful of the dogs owner because if the dog is aggressive, it's likely the owner has made it so.
