Save money and do it yourself?
Uhaul 100-150 bucks for a truck and insurance...
These guys come recommended by a couple friends. I have never used them, and not sure if they pack or not.

Be careful if anyone offers a lot of money to move a piano from one room to another.
A newspaper ad: Will pay anybody five pounds to remove piano from one room to another.
"My name is Neddie Seagoon. I've come to move the piano."
Moriarty: [Laughs maniacally, stopping suddenly]
Grytpype-Thynne: [interrupts] "Oh, we appear to have company."
Moriarty: "This gentleman has come in answer to your advertisement."
Grytpype-Thynne: "Now, Neddie, here's the money for moving the piano. There you are: five pounds in fivers. Now first, will you sign this contract, in which you guarantee to move the piano from one room to another for five pounds."
Seagoon: "Of course I'll sign. Now, which room is this piano in?"
Grytpype-Thynne: "It's erm... It's in the Louvre."
Seagoon: "What what what what what what what what what what? You mean the piano's in Paris?"
Grytpype-Thynne: "Yes."
Seagoon: "Ahhh! I've been tricked! Yahhahh!"

Re: Local Movers needed
We have to do it the old fashioned Uhaul way, luckily it must be off season for moving because we got the truck for 47 dollars + 32 for the insurance.
Granted we have to drive it 20 mins out of our way to return it, but 5 dollars in extra gas and some time is worth the $50 discount they gave, otherwise it would be $97 for the weekend.
Biggest pain to moving is getting the boxes, either have to pay 2-4 per box at Home Depot, or go store to store begging erm asking for boxes and collect them 2 or 3 at a time....
If it wasn't so pricey to hire movers, I'd prefer to let someone else do it. Ideal world would be renting everything, and never having to move anything but clothes and small things......Owning furniture is a pain.

@JS - For boxes, try kijiji or Individual Moving Supplies | Save 50% or More - or drive around to some of the apartment buildings, talk to the supers (if you can) and see if they have boxes from people moving in they want shot of.

Anyone that needs boxes for moving should go to the mall and ask stores for boxes as most stores just throw them out and if someone collects them it saves a trip to the garbage room. American Eagle and Eddie Bauer both have decent sized boxes FYI.

You should let us know how the company you used does, if in the future someone else searches for the topic they have a starting point...

Re: Local Movers needed
We plied them to bits and coffee throughout and beer at the end of the day. The gave us all hugs at the end of the move!
FYI they also run a business for helping seniors to downsize, measuring furniture and helping them plan what would work in their new places.
Great people

Also go see your local tire shop for boxes, the boxes that steel wheels and alloys come in are great for moving with

I used Uhaul from Winnipeg to Edmonton, I packed a two bed bungalow myself, On the Uhaul site they have "Helpers" you can hire to do the loading up etc, rated on the site by previous users, they'll even bring the Uhaul van to you.
Option two is a POD which i used to move from a rental to the condo i bought, reason being a two week gap from when i gave notice and a last minute glitch in condo sale so had to store my stuff too. They drop the POD on your drive, again you pack up and you bring in "helpers" to load it then a small straight truck comes and collects it.
I packed in advance and just kept the basics unpacked till the morning of the move.
Even with offers of help i employed guys instead as ive had a heart attack/stent so wasnt allowed to really help and couldnt stand about watching friends do it lol

I had a 'pod' as well, kept it on my driveway for a week whilst I packed, then for 2 weeks after they brought it to my new place. It was brilliant as I could take my time to unpack and put stuff away without worrying where it was all going to go. I'd recommend that anytime.

I would have opted for the pods if they had been affordable, Uhaul wanted over 1,000 dollars for the service, 1,250 or somewhere around there. Would have been nice to have a bit of time to load up vs all in a few hours such as with a truck.
The truck was affordable though, can't really beat 4 days of use for 110 with taxes. But boy oh boy was it ever hard, and we only had to move an apartment and had even gotten rid of a lot of furniture by selling and donating so we didn't have to move them.
If we can plan the next move in advance (hard to do with renting) I think I'd opt to just hire a crew to load and unload the Uhaul, I am still sore from last weekends move....
I think I did something to my neck/upper back, as it's what hurts the most.
I don't know how those moving guys and gals do it, hard hard work.
Hope your recovering well from your heart.
