Never much success with teachers, tried two (only a lesson from each)and just wasn't impressed, luck of the draw I guess.... that said, we took my son, then 5 or 6 to 'school of rock'. I don't know if they have it where you are. its basically a series of practice rooms and a proper studio. kids (and adults) can go there, for kids they have a session where they can play any instrument, drums, guitar, piano, sing, you name it - as a group in the studio together with an instructor. Once they decide to specialize and they are ready to move on, they have one on one tuition and then once again, if they are ready they can attend another evening group session and even play out locally. It is very well done and I only wish it had been around when I was a kid.... that said it is pricy, but very professional. Son is now 8 and even though he isn't guitar mad, I can tell he will eventually surpass me, and that might not be far away a) he started so very young b) he has someone in the family who is nuts about all types of music and c) there is more music gear strewn around the house than any sane person should entertain ... that helps too of course.

oh yeah, Johnny winter 'life is hard' at least I got the chorus pedal on ;)

If I try to sing I just end up singing the strumming pattern... plus I actually can't sing!

LOL, funny you mention that... I'm the same way. I'm by no means a good singer, but I cannot sing while playing, either. I really admire those musicians who can do this.... it's not easy!! The pros make it look like it's nothing! Grrrr. LOL

Re: Guitar Mad People

I play bass. Somebody told me years ago that bass is only 2/3 as difficult as guitar and I believed them.

Fender '75 Jazz Bass Reissue
Aguilar AG500SC
Aguilar GS212 (x2)

P.S. I tried a five string Fbass BN5 for a few years but sold it, wasn't getting enough play time. I will say that if there are any bassists out there looking for one of the best sounding and playing instruments on the planet, to pay a visit to their shop in Hamilton.

Fantastic. Let us know if you experience "red light phobia" even though yours doesn't have lights!

Cool

It refers to the fact that, before you turn record on, you can play perfectly but, the minute you know it is recording, your technique turns to poop.

You'll have to have another look at the Phil McKnight clip I posted above. You will be sounding amazing in no time.
