So what is the most impressive song you can play?

I can play the vast majority of Sweet Child O Mine as either Slash or Izzy (the opening riff can be heard every day being played at just about every guitar shop anywhere in the world) but I can't get the wah part of the solo correct. Grrrr

I played wish you were here at a folk meeting in the back of a pub in Blackpool 10 years ago and everybody joined in singing. That was my best moments on an acoustic guitar.

Earlier this year, I started to focus upon playing with my fingers, rather than a pick. Still a major work in progress.

Apart from basic 3-4 chord songs I don't think I could play any single song all the way through without mistakes or relying on tabs.

It's like my daughter with the piano... dum-dum-dum - oh, hang on - dum-dum-der-dum -no, wait a minute - dum-dum - no that's not it ARRRRRRGGHH -slams lids down and runs upstairs.

My son is actually very very good on the bass. I've tried to play it but after the guitar the strings are too thick. Can play Human League's "Being Boiled" though which is a pretty cool bass line.

Hi everyone, great thread!

I started learning guitar about 3 years ago; I have a Fender Squire. I take a 1-hour in-person lesson once a week. I also love Justinguitar.com, he's brilliant!

About 18 months into learning guitar, I realized I like the bass lines to a lot of songs, so I bought a Fender Jazz bass and have been learning that for a year and a half (same teacher).

I'm definitely better suited to playing bass, I pick it up quicker and have more fun with it.

On both my guitar (black) and my bass (cherry red), I changed out the plain white pick guard for ones with a paisley print.

I have a good Fender bass amp, but only a very small guitar amp. My next purchase is going to be a better guitar amp.

I read tabs for both guitar and bass, and have just started learning to read real music on bass. I play Pink Floyd (just learned Empty Places and Young Lust on bass...soooo much fun!), Rush, Prince, a bit of Bee Gees, Robin Trower, Eagles, Moody Blues, etc.

Love hearing everyone's stories! I'll try to get a picture of my babies. lol

I used a cheat sheet with the chords, I knew the intro back then but forgot most of it now, keep meaning to relearn it but forget once I fire up the hunbuckers

The one song I can play well by finger picking is The Beatles "Blackbird". I can kind of play Dust in the Wind, but not as well.

I like finger picking, it's easier than picking with a plectrum....I think I have more control with my fingers.

The bass has a red paisley strap, too, but wasn't connected in that photo.

And yes, put Blackbird on your list of songs to learn, it's a good one!
