Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?
The BBC and ITV joined forces in 2016 to bring the most recent British TV programming to streaming audiences in the US through Britbox.

I'm watching The Killing now which I'm enjoying. Based on a Danish version so it's nicely grey and grim.

Skip the final season which is a real departure. That is the season Netflix produced as the previous network stopped filming the series.

I don't normally recommend TV shows because I have a quirky sense of what's good, however for those who like a well acted, well cast, steadiliy paced and atmospheric historical series I suggest a look at 'Wolf Hall'. It's a six part series following the rise of Thomas Cromwell based on the novel by Hilary Mantel.
Don't expect fast paced high drama but the locations and especially the apparent lack of TV production addons like additional lighting where normally you'd need it tends to promote realism.
I'm not sure if it's been recommended before, but can be downloaded from Kodi if you feel the need.

For those folks who are like me and enjoy foreign dramas there is website called walterpresents which you can subscribe to. I've watched couple of dramas already and liked them. As you are not allowed to post web links I didn't add .com..

La Mante on Netflix is really enjoyable. It's six parts and I watched three yesterday and am really looking forward to the rest this afternoon. Good French drama, well acted with lots of twists and turns...some beautiful scenery of warm sunny French days to really make one feel wistful too. A bit gruesome perhaps, but artistically done!
I really enjoyed Wolf Hall. Very faithful to the books and very absorbing.
I want to like Peaky Blinders...it's the sort of programme I'd like, but it makes me depressed...it's too bleak...there is nothing to relieve the horrible reality...like a modern day Dickens but without the humour...they never laugh.

It suddenly hit me recently how 'western-like' it is.

The major problem with this production are the accents. I know that were they to be authentic then nobody would understand a word said but at least they could have made an effort to get somewhere near the real thing. It's so bad that I can't watch it without turning the sound off and then it becomes a little more enjoyable but I lose the plot every now and again.

But what's that got to do with Peaky Blinders?
This last series has had some very muffled/mumbled voices. I have viewed a couple with subtitles and a few times I have "rewound" and played back with the subtitles on some scenes and then turned them off again.

I never got in to Peaky Blinders, it is miserable with no redeeming qualities.
