Default First time skiing last night.....

....And everything hurts this morning......

Feel like I've been hit by a truck, and that was just me on the baby slope....

Loved it though

Nicky

Nicky - well done - glad you enjoyed it ...

Oh, the pain, the pain, I remember it well. I spent my three days on my backside - and had an amazing, technicolour array of bruises to show for it. But you do go back again and again (and Jeremy Clarkson article aside - another thread) - it is quite addictive ....

Enjoy

Thing is, I have to keep moving...coz I'll seize up if I dont!!!

I have whiplash from my first fall (ouch!) and pulled my calf muscle trying to get the damn ski boot off

Feel like an old woman today

Try Nakiska next time .... It's great for beginners, and you can have a half-day ticket from 12 onwards, which is probably long enough to start with!
The snow is likely to be slightly better than COP and the runs more interesting!

A word to the wise, Lake Louise is gorgeous, but the runs are much longer so it is gruelling for an inexperienced skier, IMHO. Sunshine has easier runs, on the whole.

I looked on the Costco web site a few weeks ago and you can by ski passes there

What a brave person you are. I am petrified of trying, at my age I can't afford to fall on my ass too much the thought of a broken bone terrifies me.

How old are you? (whisper ...... )
I had my first lesson at age 45. OH is just starting and he's 57!

At our age we just go slow and avoid icy areas, and then when you fall over you are less likely to break anything.

Now your OH has shown me up I'm 51 and very much afraid of heights as well so I don't got a lot going for me. I was very tempted to try cross country skiing but couldn't find anywhere local. I watch a couple every weekend that are in their 70's and they make it look so easy but I know it's not.

I can ice skate but it's been while since I've done that too.

We went to Jasper last weekend and all of us had the best time ever.

The green run with the t-bar was great for me. I can finally say I enjoyed skiing.

My kids were up the highest they could get coming down the blue runs....not for me, I thought I would get a nose bleed at the half way point, and had my eyes closed most of the way on the chair lift.

Isn't this near to you? http://www.canadatrails.ca/xc_ski/sk/sk5.html

To be fair, I'd think that X-country might suit you better than downhill, especially if you have skated, as it's slightly similar. Actually, I think it might suit me better too!! .... now I just have to persuade hubby!
Our boys just enjoy throwing themselves off mountains!

The fear of heights is my biggest problem........I feel physically sick looking down and worry that I will pass out. The first few times we went to Rabbit Hill it felt more like survival than enjoyment.

I too think I will be more suited to cross country.
