Default Do you get Christmas off & Do you like your commute?

Two unrelated questions, but curious.

Aside from falling on my day off on occasion, I generally don't Christmas off, and this year is no exception, working bright an early at 8am to 6pm. Girlfriend isn't happy, but what can you do?

And do you like your commute? I like my job, can't complain about it nor the work location, but damn the commute sucks, mostly, not completely due to the crap highway, could be a better drive if they could manage to build a decent highway.

I'll be working too. Commute is a 10 minute walk alongside the golf course, over a creek, past the ski lifts and into the village. It's not exactly a chore.

That's my kind of commute. I'd love to live in Whistler and be close to work, but that place is crazy high rent wise.

The drive door to door is 59.8 km's one way, takes 45 minutes to an hour (not sure what it will be in snow) usually takes longer to get home as there is only 1 lane leaving town and it can back up pretty bad.

I've done years of long commutes - the expense, time and hassle can get you down, particularly in the dark winter months. It's a shame Whistler rents are so high that you can't save enough on gas/car running costs to be closer to work.

Thankfully I'm off on Christmas Day. I have had to use some vacation around it which sucks given how few days one gets in North America.

My commute is a 25 minute walk. There is one crowded point on Bay Street that irks me. Other than that it is a great quality of life being able to walk to work.

It used to be 7 minutes.

I get Christmas through to new year off, plus a couple of extra Xmas days thrown in too, so I love that, but I'm so bloody knackered by the time I get to Xmas, I need it.

Commute generally 45 mins, usually pretty easy except during new snow fall mornings.

Would love to live ten mins from my work, that would be great.

Rents in the sea to sky corridor are just ridiculously high, but people are willing to pay what is asked as both Squamish and Whistler have rental housing shortages.

Working through until 1am from Christmas Eve and then on duty for a few hours on Christmas morning. The commute can be anywhere from 35 minutes to 1h40. Normally around an hour. Barnet Highway is a pretty drive.

Working the odd few hours over Christmas, I could have had more but have chosen to have a few days relative rest instead.

My commute is oh........ about........ 2 minutes including pouring a coffee. From my kitchen to my office, lol.

Taking a few days off over the festive period, from the beginning of next week to just after the new year. And for commuting, it is a 10 mins taxi or bus ride if I'm feeling adventurous enough to brave the stench of BO or about a nice 30mins stroll home if its not raining or cold. Which is good, as I can pick a takeaway or stop in for a cheeky pint in one of the many bars I pass by.

Christmas Eve, Day & Boxing day off. Probably take most of the period between Christmas and NY off as well. Commute is 15-20 minutes by car with the excitement of driving round Newfoundlands only roundabout on the way, the highlight of the experience.

I am using some lieu time and vacation to get from Dec 19 to Jan 5 off

My commute on the ttc is ok, but the service on the 510 streetcar is significantly worse now that the line is up and running again than it was when we had replacement buses ;(

I think if I take 4 days vacation days I am good for avoiding work from the 20th through to 4th, so no working Xmas for me.

Plus I like my commute, 23 minutes of leisurely (mostly) country driving. Long enough to forget about work at the end of the day, but no so long as to be annoying. A traffic jam for me is getting stuck at the lights.

Knocking off at some point on Xmas Eve and flying up to join the rest of the herd in Quebec. Back the weekend after New Year. I think I have plenty of unused leave in the bank.

Commute is bed-bog-kitchen-garage (for a smoke)-office.

I wash later in the day, generally after lunch (when the UK office has gone home).

I've got a temporary job that finishes Christmas Eve for me, then I'm unemployed. My sister is arriving on the 28th (she doesn't yet know) then I'm going for and Operation on the 7th and won't be able to work for 6 weeks. It's not what I though would be happening, unemployment and ops but hey ho. Goal for next year is to try to get out of retail.
