I guess I'm about the same vintage as AC. I don't know that this would be my final choice, (several of my more "meaningful" records were oldies even then, I've had to check release dates on these!) - but here's eight to be going on with
Human League - Don't You Want Me
Paul Hardcastle - 19
Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round
Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver
The Eurythmics - There Must Be An Angel
Stiff Little Fingers - Bits of Kids

Funny, had forgotten all about '19' until a few days ago when it came up on my Vietnam thread. It's in two DID lists already, which is a surprise, as it was quite a one hit wonder type of song.

So these are just tunes that remind you of your school days not necessarily your all time favourite tunes? Some of them could sleep into cheese territory....

I seem to remember that Desert Island Discs played all sorts of music.
Why no classical?

Re: Desert Island Discs Goes To Skool
because this is specifically a "reminds you of your school days" version. There have been other Desert Island Discs threads in the past, I'll see if I can find one...

Re: Desert Island Discs Goes To Skool
It's in mine specifically because we had a bizarre general-studies course that was taught by one of the music staff, and I remember we had to make a themed mix-tape for homework. My subject was "war" so I had Frankie Goes To Hollywood's B-side remake of the Supremes' "War - what is it good for," Jona Lewie's "Stop the Cavalry," Lennon's Christmas schmaltz-fest "Haopy Xmas (War Is Over)," Hardcastle's "19" (then in the charts, I think), Rolf Harris singing "Two Little Boys," and threw in Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, amongst other gems - the selection was limited by what I, my friends, my parents, and the local library had available on vinyl or cassette to borrow. We had to write an essay on our choices. I thought then that the whole thing was a complete waste of time and effort, but it seems to have stuck in my mind alarmingly well....
