Oh my, yes.

A few years ago a family member always referred to "Marine" when talking about an in-law.

It wasn't until her funeral that I discovered her name was Maureen.

They bastardise names here, sigh.

LOL! The exact same thing happened to me....I even called her "Marine" for quite a while....until one day I happened to see her driving licence (we were laughing at photos - as you do) and noticed it was Maureen!! of course everyone told me thats a really weird way to pronounce it! I said yes.....like pronouncing Hereford Her-ford.... thats a continuous on going joke with a freind of mine.

Anther one of confusion is Don and Dawn...with a Canadian accent they both sounds exactly the same! Its confused me a time or two.

(and they can't pronounce "hawk" - it's "hock")

Colin's middle name was Craig Not Greg, Craig. Pronounced the correct way.

What about Barb and Bob? If I say 'Barb' they hear 'Bob' I try to say 'Barrrb' but I gave trouble rolling my Rs.
