Cellphone App Query...
So I'll be ditching my Koodo line and having a work phone only as of next week. Down to one cellphone!
Is there an app that would let me send SMS to a UK cellphone for free on a dataplan?
Still struggling to get mum set up on Skype/ Duo/ Facetime etc...
cheers!
(Is this one for Gozit?)

Viber?
WhatsApp?
Although in both instances I think these require both sender and recipient to have the app, so may not help if you really do want to send an SMS via the UK cell network... perhaps somebody more knowledgeable can answer that.

Skype will allow you to call and SMS UK phone numbers, but you will need a subscription.

Does your Mum have a smart phone? My old girl got herself an iPhone and now we use iMessage together.

I've no idea what it's like or how good, but this might do you..

Edited to say Hmmm not sure this is completely correct, reading their website it would appear that texts to the UK may be charged for. https://textme.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/...t-of-countries

TextMe is a cross-platform messaging application that allows you to send unlimited texts (SMS) messages and pictures to any phone number in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Bangladesh, India, Nigeria and 40 countries in the World for FREE.
It also gives you a virtual UK number you can use.Edited to say Hmmm not sure this is completely correct, reading their website it would appear that texts to the UK may be charged for. https://textme.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/...t-of-countries

Re: Cellphone App Query...
I wonder if something like Amazon Echo Show would not do the trick?
Or if she gets a Samsung tablet (or Amazon Kindle Fire) you could replicate on your side and just use it as a communication device.
Even a smartphone is ok. Just simplify is by deleting apps or taking them off the home screen. The issue is often confusion by too much clutter than the app itself.

Well we actually, finally got skype set up. But now we have no immediate means of communication, I've taken to "flashing" (making a brief call letting the phone ring once or twice but not pick up) to let her know she should call me.
Not ideal.
