Finally, we're getting there!
The only time I use cash these days is for parking meters, and that's simply to save the 'pay by card surcharge' (20-50p).

Re: Cashless society
After my dental treatment is finished I may be cashless.
I pay our snow-plow guy in cash; on the bus if I don't have a punchcard; taxis; prescriptions when it's only one; when I send stepson to the shops.
Of course you don't even need cash for your free coffee and paper in Waitrose.

You need cash in Ontario. There are places that only take cash, even cheques are suspect as there are no cheque guarantee cards.

Ironically, yesterday, I had to put it into a late 20th century parking meter at Helmsley Castle.
I am currently devoid of cash.

They finally replaced the men who took the tethering fee with machines then.

Re: Cashless society
I never have cash. Not helped by the decline of bank branches and having to pay other banks for access to cash.
It's annoying when I need a haircut as the barber charges more if you pay by card. When I can go to another barber though I do.

Re: Cashless society
I usually have £100-£200 cash on me most of the time. I like using cash, but I hate small change, so I reckon I donate at least £10/week to charity jars. As a consequence I am very aware of charity jars, and I will deliberately not use cash if they only have charity jars which I do not approve of.

I'm currently wintering in Bali where I love carrying cash ...at this time I have over a million in my wallet just to go to the pub, and I'm feeling as wealthy as a king!
Oh! forgot to say that's Rupiah = about CDN$100.....

Re: Cashless society
I know that carrying cash is a risk but, unless thieves have X-ray eyes, it's no more a risk for being mugged than not carrying cash.
It would be a sad day indeed if the amount of cash in my wallet was determined by an arbitrary fear of the threat of robbery. Are you saying that the cash you carry is based on the fear of being mugged?

I find it very annoying when businesses up won’t give me favourable exchange rate for my US cash. I usually walk out and tell them they can stick their rubbish up their jacksy. They should be falling over themselves for US currency.
