Thanks folks,

We have tried several different brands, and although she will eat them as the sister is coming I thought it would be nice to get some.
I will give making my own a go though......Any good recipes??

Wow that was quick!! I knew the main ingredients but was a little unsure of quantities, a lot of the shop bought ones here also have a lot of garlic in them.

I will make friends with Google!!

Thanks!

I too like Sacla, great for most sauces, including Pesto, I miss them. We quite like Cosco's Pesto, it's not a bad....not the same, but acceptable. I too would aim to make my own, but find that most people who are looking for an alternative are generally looking for a quick fix....I can do most things...but after a day at work I just want an easy option.

I don't like pesto. I like all the ingredients individually but as a melange I find them a little strange, and slimy.

Just thought I would share.

That is remedied by copious amounts of freshly grated parmesan.

plus a good chunk of peccorino as well. The Italians mix up the parmesan with peccorino which is a sheep's cheese. You need more basil than anything. Plus garlic.

Good to know. Do they just add sun dried tomatoes to make the red pesto?

Fresh tomatoes (no seeds), basil, pine nuts, parmiggiano and it's made with a dollop of ricotta cheese rather than peccorino. Garlic is optional.

Garlic is never optional.
