Default Camping

The great Canadian pastime, so who does it? How do you camp? Honking great big 5th wheel? bumper hitch, tent trailer or just a tent? Where do you go and what do you do while there?

We're off on Friday for 10 days down to Police Outpost (just East of Waterton under the majestic watch of Chief mountain!) We have a bumper hitch trailer that sleeps 6, taking the boat down and parents in law are coming too and bringing the quads down,

We fish, fish - ooh and fish again, drink, go for walks, swim and generally have a lazy time.

On the way back we'll probably stop in Blairemore for Thunder in the
Valley, then we'll get home and all jump in the shower for a proper clean up

I've been camping two ways (in the past five years or so).

- fill bag with dehydrated food, add sleeping bag and tent, fill many water bottles with red wine. Walk off cliff. Memorable strolls were off the end of the Grand Canyon park, past the Hermit's Rest and into the Chicago Basin, reached by the Durango/Silverton railroad.

- fill vehicle with assorted animals and children, barbecue, elaborate food, beer and wine, multiple tents. Pitch tents on beach, good ones are Long Point and Batchawana. Cook, drink, supervise lazily.

it's a tin boat with a little electric engine and the trailer is circa 1980something - they both work for us so don't go getting any ideas of grandeur.

Now if I had RICH's watercraft then I might post some pictures...........

I'll indulge myself. We're off for a week's glamping this weekend to the Shuswap. It'll involve mostly doing f*** all.

i really dont understand camping or people who like to do it?..why spend two weeks of your life sleeping on the floor outside being cold and miserable or sleeping in a the back of a trailer and trying to cook on one ring or an open fire..i could get the same effect by sleeping on the streets and it wouldnt cost me anything

So cool, so cool in fact that you appear to be looking in the wrong direction. How cool is that.

You fail to appreciate the levels of equipment a trailer can be specced with If the microwave, oven, fridge freezer, aircon/heating, shower, hairdryer, or DVD player aren't in working order, we don't camp. It's not exactly a penance.

Same here but watching the 'premium' channel with room-service of a bucket full of beer and a nice steak at the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton. Hi-de-Hi!
