Re: Butter/smoked salmon and border control
I know Tootle will kill me for derailing yet again but.... forget stuff that you can get here..butter is butter! Salmon is, well... as Oink knows, salmon, normally quite large here apparently!
Get her to fill the whole suitcase with something that is both heaven to eat, not easy to get apart from at ridiculous prices in "British shops" - and is also light but a delicious cheesy treat. Cheesy wotsits and Quavers- heaven sent food, made by the Gods (ok Walkers.. but I would scoff the lot!)

Yep, apparently "reconstituted potato" but cheesy wisps of heaven basically- I don't think anything similar over here. Wotsits are a bit like Cheetos but melt in your mouth -and very cheesy! If you ever see them try them- clearly two of my guilty pleasures!

I'll have to try the cheese ones if I ever see them. On occasion the grocery store gets random junk food from the UK, nothing regular though, just a random item every so often. The last one they had some sort of chip from Scotland, forget the name of the company, said it was bacon flavor, but didn't taste anything like bacon to me. Tasted like pork rinds.

Phew- I thought that I would get a right royal Tootle thrashing for derailing another thread and she offers me food.... result! Family sized share pack??!!

If it's somewhat greyin colour, I can see that would be unpleasant. Perhaps it is "gristly", which would be better, but not by much! Alternatively, it might be grisly!

You are right but certain family matters are detaining us in the UK at the moment.

I find that too. I think the supermarket butchers need to find the "fine" attachment on their machines. I've been minded to ask my independent butcher if he can do a better job of grinding.

What puzzles me is that they do a perfectly fine job with minced lamb.

Although the dogs meat is of human grade and while they can't label it so, they do have photos online of them cooking up some of it on the bbq for lunch, not like her food contains weird stuff, the non-poultry is just ground meat (she gets venison and kangaroo) and juiced vegetables. The poultry (she gets turkey, and chicken) has ground up bones but otherwise is just ground turkey and ground chicken, all raw of course.
I am sure Vancouver has butchers though still, we don't have a local butcher anymore either, or sea food store.
Anyone ever try kangaroo by chance? Nestors every so often has it for humans, but I haven't given it a try yet.
