Default 299,999 KM and that's it?

My Pontiac Vibe hit 299,999 yesterday, but refused to go any further, well the odometer did anyhow, car is fine n dandy.

Using trip A now for the extra KM and trip B for daily mileage.

Google tells me this is a Toyota issue and all 2003-2008 Matrix, Vibe, and Corrolas will stick at 299,999 :@(

Good cars. Toyota build and a garbage badge makes for great value in Africa!

worrisome - is it possible to fix this, possibly by getting the odometer rewound back say 100km or so, or does this mean you have to go to standard auto wreckers to get a used one with a hundred or so KM's on it?

Once you've got 300,000 on your car, does the odometer matter much any more?

Our Accord has 305,000 miles on it, though it needed a new motor at 296,000. The clutch, exhaust system (except the cat), starter motor, shocks and springs, radiator, and most other parts are original.

It's a good job you don't have OCD or something.

I would say its not a big issue.

Didnt older cars in the past have odometers that stopped at some point once a certain number was hit?

Cars which measured miles used to only count to 99,999.9, in theory they would reset to zero and carry on ...... My father had a GM like that, made in 1974 - but it was effectively all worn out at 88,000 miles, it was a regular PoC.

Ours is electronic so I suppose it now just boils down to what the programmers decided. But based on the space provided 999,999.9 seems to be max it could go.

In kms since that is what the car is in.

Now the chances of it making it that far, not sure it ever will.

At a car auction recently a restored car was being sold with x amount of miles as the odometer had been reset after the engine rebuild.

I was driving a borrowed Triumph Herald when it reached 99,998 miles. I disconnected the speedo cable then drove it to the owner's home and reconnected it so she could make the car new again.

It seems amazing to me now that the car was probably ten years old. Now it takes me a little over three years to rack up that many miles.

Yup. I spend as much on petrol here in the US as I did in the UK - I might be only paying one third to one quarter of the price, but I drive 3-4 times as far!
