I just don't think stores in other countries can replicate the US Black Friday tradition.... It's not a major holiday in most (all of the other places?) and not decades long tradition.

Although I did get a filter for the aquarium at 50% off and it was only $50 CAD same filter in US, same chain $72 USD so we got the better deal for once...

Is it decades long? I thought it was fairly recent.

Black Friday has been happening in the US for as long as I can recall.

Looking online seems the 1980s is when it started to become a nationwide thing in the US and the 80s is about as far back as I can recall.

When I worked retail in late 90s and early 2000s it was around so at least 2 decades now.

I don't need or buy any of it and certainly don't subscribe to the advertising, but I appreciate the evil sounding name.. "Black Friday!" Hail Satan.

Just popped out in the rain and bought a new 65" tv. I think I was overcome with Ashes fever although it's for our front room. I got $900 off the price though.

I just had a thought, I hope it fits on our tv stand.

You could probably get a new stand for a couple of hundred so you only saved $700
See my Black Friday rant on the TIO thread about buying a 65" TV.

Software, cell phones, bike stuff. Things I had planned to do anyway, just waited to see what came up this weekend. Seems it was worth the wait!

Just because one may not need it right away, doesn't mean it's not essential to have at some point.

I waited to buy an aquarium filter, it's essential to keeping fish alive, but buying it now vs a week ago made more economic sense, it is essential, but the old one was able to keep going for an extra week but would have died at some point in the near future.

Shoes for work are essential, better to buy them on sale now then to wait a couple more months and buy at full price..

I'm not proud my gratuitous consumerism or silly big tvism. It's not sitting well. I think I feel like that Sharkyuk bloke who ate all those chickens wings, just with a little less sense of accomplishment
