Default Printer Cartridges

Can someone give me the lowdown on buying printer cartridges in Malaysia, and in particular Penang?

I mean.... if I look on the Canon Malaysia website and see that the price of a Canon Cartridge 325 is RM 247, does that mean that everywhere will charge that price? Or should one shop around? Discounts can?

https://www.tonersave.com.my/
You can select original or compatible.
Compatible is appr. 50% of the price.
I have a laser B/W printer, as there will be no problem with ink drying up.

To get cheap............or cheaper that is the question

Many so called compatible ones around the market
eg
Canon 325 Toner Cartridge Compatible | Lazada Malaysia

Not sure for 6000 pages at RM 247 its worth risking gluing up the works.

Here is one supposed to be genuine for a fair price

Canon Cartridge 325 Original Laser Toner Black | Lazada Malaysia

I have great experience with Lazada seller so far...............

Hi BB,

I buy 'compatible' cartridges online from AppleToner.com.my
Free delivery within two working days.
Perhaps not the cheapest, but efficient.
A compatible Canon Cartridge 325 costs RM135

See: http://www.appletoner.com.my/catalog.../?q=Canon+325+

I think AppleToner and TonerSave are probably the same company.

Well I just looked up Canon Cartridge 325 on Tonersave and it's coming up as RM 280, which is more than the Canon Malaysia site

Yeh I just bought a "compatible" one this morning from Techserve for RM 85 and do you think I could get the damn thing in the printer?

It's gone back to Techserve and we are currently "In Negotiations".
They say I have broken it
I say it didn't fit the printer.
( I tried to make it fit )

So it does sound like prices are variable in different shops?

This may not help you dear BakedBean, but when we moved here I brought my Canon printer with me. Worked fine then needed new cartridges. Toddle off to local ink supplier, gave them model number and got replacement cartridges at a reasonable price. They did not fit despite the pack having my printer model number on. contacted Canon and was told as my printer was a UK model, only cartridges bought in Europe would fit!! The difference was literally only a millimeter or two. After a lot of "investigating" I ended up with a Brother DCP-J105 which has very large cartridges. After just over a year I have replaced one cartridge at a cost of 290 pesos - whatever that equates to in your part of the world. For the office we bought an Epson L220 which has the big ink tanks on the side which you fill from a bottle of ink.these cost around 300 pesos a bottle. At these prices it is not worth looking at alternatives but in UK I always used compatible cartridges and NEVER had a problem.

I can't find cartridges locally in Sarawak, but when I go to KL, I go to Mid Valley mall Canon shop (2nd or 3rd floor, i think) and stock up with extras. Really nice service, and they will print out the warranty as well, so if they don't work you can return them (not that I've ever needed to).

They double checked for me I was buying the right type of cartridge by checking what my printer number was, before they would sell me anything.

Canon have to be the most expensive cartridges in the world and if you buy the cartdiges in Europe they won't work in Malaysia! I bought my Canon is Tesco for RM79 but new cartridges cost me RM169! I think I will replace it with a Brother.

Some printers have an ink tank now which you just refill from a bottle. The other thing to consider is that many printers will now print both sides of the paper which represents another economy.

Also BB, if you think to change your printer, also think to buy a printer that will work with portable devices such as iPad or Android.

Yes, Tonersave and Appletoner are the same company.
I have a Canon Laser 3010, the toner and the compatible toner cassette cost me RM 125:-
(I had a RM10:- discount coupon due to earlier purchase)

Yep will consider for the future but, at the moment, I print very little really, and I have two small Canon printers so..... they are there. But noted.

I would recommend a laser printer as the ink doesn't dry up if you leave it unused for long or even very long periods.
A B&W printer comes quite cheap nowadays.
Cannon MF 3010 which also has a scanner around RM 400:-
For the occasional need of a colour print, one can use one of the numerous shops, we do ours in the one in Tesco Tanjung Bungah.

That's strange! I've looked here and most of the Canon printers here are made in Indonesia or Malaysia . A few say assembled in Thailand. No idea why local cartridges won't fit. Printers are a pain aren't they? you buy a nice one, cartridges cost more than the printer, then they discontinue your model and no cartridges available anymore!I'm sorry I can't help you.
