Unless I missed it you did not say where you would staying in Penang, will you be using public transport or a small rental car.
Penang has much to offer depending what you are looking for, as far as property goes spend your time here looking to see if you like the place, there is a glut of properties on the market all over Malaysia including Penang, so there is no fear of missing the boat thinking it will cost more next year, so spend your time looking around socially, but as mentioned don't expect to find too much Australian type eaters, there are a few bars & restaurants where expats tend to congregate, most expats live in the what is known as the north coastal strip from say Gurney area to Batu Ferringhi.
Come enjoy & look around.

Thanks to all my recent correspondents although, as one said, perhaps starting to wander a bit off topic. What we simply want to do is meet some recent (& perhaps not so recent) expats & share their experiences & tips, or even just meeting people socially for coffee, drinks, casual dinner etc. Any takers?
