Horse Racing in Penang

Has anyone enjoyed a day at the races in Penang. I've seen that races are planned for the 1st half of Nov.
Any thoughts on dress (smart casual), betting (restrictions), refreshments (food / drinks) and crowds ???
Thank you.

Re: Horse Racing in Penang

We've been once when on holiday.
We used to go regularly to Kranji in Singapore and I used to go now and again to Bukit Timah in Singapore . Saw Lester Piggott riding there.
We also used to go regularly to Happy Valley and Sha Tin when we lived in HK.

Dress is whatever you want in Penang if you want to stand and walk around. We didn't visit the stands but it looked similar to elsewhere.
In Singapore flip flops aren't allowed but dunno about Penang.
We drove and found it not too difficult to find a parking place, which is wherever you can find a spot.

Big screen to watch the races.

Betting restrictions? Not that I know of.

You can get food and drink but the quality ain't up to much unlike Singapore and in the Stable Bend viewing restaurant at Happy Valley.

A day at the races is OK in Penang but we've enjoyed it better elsewhere.

But deffo worth a visit.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Horse Racing in Penang

I've been to Kranji a couple times. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the cold beers while sitting at the aircon viewing seats.
Might give Penang a try (seen it, done it, check mark). Maybe pick up a racing form and place a couple small fun bets.
