Default High terror alert in Malaysia

On my iPad so cannot put in a link, but Express website saying that British Gov is warning Brits not to travel to Malaysia except essential travel as there is a High terror alert

A friend in KL said that it,s heaving with armed police.

Take care forumers and be vigilant.

The terrorism threat level link in the article goes to another article about a bomb threat in Moscow

I don't want to rain n the Express's parade but this is a rather sensationalist piece ofclap trap. The current FCO advice is almost exactly the same as it was 15 months ago when I first started looking at Malaysia as a home. The only change as far as I can see is that they now mention the haze.

I don't think that the reporter has ever visited Malaysia or even looked it up on the map when they refer to the resort of Sabah. True there are a few hotheads in some of the more Muslim areas and the country needs to be vigilant after what happened in Jakarta.

But after living in London during the late seventies to early eighties when IRA bombs were a regular occurrence I do not feel particularly at risk just now.

All online newspapers these days are full of sensationalism/clickbait.
It's how they earn from their advertisers.

I read three online papers, well scan them really, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent and The Guardian. And they are all as bad as The News of the World when it was in its hayday.

I agree with you. I was living in London then too and it was not a pleasant time at all.

It does seem that there is some kind of "intelligence" though. There is a bigger police presence in KL currently. I think I would be a bit wary wandering around the tourist hotspots down there. But....maybe the police presence is doing the job. Let's hope so

Perhaps FCO should also add the threat level for people travelling to UK, not just abroad, in the same way they give advise about visa requirements for visiting UK - Security Advice and Information - Metropolitan Police Service

Hi all,

Malaysia is relatively safe. It seems the police is doing a good job in cutting the threat at its bud.

However, to be doubly sure and safe, please avoid major shopping complex or clubbing areas in KL- Changkat. Sure this would be doable.

Travelling halfway through the globe for shopping complex or clubs would beat the very purpose of travelling -in the first place.

You've been reading too much Stephen Leather, especially his book 'False Friends'.

UK is none too safe these days - Islamic State group 'may be plotting huge attacks' in UK - BBC News even here in Japan there are electronic message boards warning that the authorities are on high alert and to report anything suspicious. We even had a small explosion here a few months ago. Someone let off a small device in the men's toilets attached to a shrine in Tokyo. It damaged the ceiling. Police are still trying to work out the motive

Those messages started appearing after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Since then the powers that be forgot to switch the messages off.
