Golf VW
Looking at getting a Golf for my mother in law (Malaysian) based in KL.
Can anyone recommend the best sourcing solution?
Import myself from Germany, use a local dealer? any point in using the MH2 discount that people are discussing in another thread?
My wife would also prefer a Golf R whereas my MIL would be happy with a little TSI (although even with a 1.4 the combination of supercharger and turbo is impressive)

Re: Golf VW
Just to say that a friend in Penang (I know, not very helpful) bought a Golf and very happy with it. She bought from a dealer in Penang (not MM2H).
I think I would just be inclined to find a good dealer in KL and ask for a discount (usual).

Re: Golf VW
Better import it by yourself. Buying a Volkswagen in Malaysia is the biggest waste of money one can imagine.

Re: Golf VW
What ever you decide to buy I suggest you look for a local model. A European sourced car will have a cooling system and air supply designed for the weather there. I don't think you will have much call to warm the air here in Penang very often but you could overheat the engine if the cooling system isn't up to it.

I am sure the spec for North Queensland would include an updated engine cooling and air conditioning system, as NeonHippy suggest a European spec car could pose problems in Malaysia.
The DSG problem to which I am referring is specific to Malaysia, and is caused by overheating. This is not just down to the heat but also stop/start in traffic congestion.

Re: Golf VW
You lucky lucky people up there.
My Toyota Altis is coming up to 10 years old.
Only done 41000 km
I wa just gonna extend the COE for another 10 years at around S$45k.
But the missus 'wants a new car' - that's supposed to be said in a very whiny voice.
So been around the car dealers this morning looking at Toyota Altis
Kia somethingorother
Hyundai Elantra
Nissan Sylphy.
All cost around S$100,000 inclusive of COE.
Without driving them yet I'd say the choice narrows to Nissan Sylphy and Hyundai Elantra. Both nice cars with more add on included than the others.
The annoying thing is I'd have to scrap my existing Altis with the 41000 on the clock and all I'd get back is maybe S$8000.
It's worth what people will pay and that's sweet FA.
What a throw away society.
