It's all that red wine....

What has happened over those 40 years is that there have been significant improvements in medicine with prophylactic treatment for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Major killers such as smoking, asbestos and lead have been eradicated or significantly reduced. Of course our overall risk of death has remained at 1 but on the up side we are living longer.

I think the increase in life expectancy over these last 40 years must also be a significant factor in the increased lifetime risk of dying from cancer (i.e. from 20% to 25%).

Yes, absolutely correct. The overall probability of death remains the same but by removing or reducing some causes we live a bit longer until the big C gets us. So the risk from cancer has increased but it not something we should be concerned about, rather something to rejoice because we are living longer.

Nicely side stepped IVV but the point I was trying to make is that you do not eat in whilst in Penang. Not that Penang is the only place where you eat out.

Anyone know where I can buy bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate, Bismatrol, Gastro-Bismol etc) in Penang (or elsewhere in Malaysia)?

I recommend explaining your symptoms to a local pharmacist and see what they recommend.

My pharmacist in Penang recently gave me Omezole 20 capsules (Omeprazole) for stomach problems which did the trick.
Some details here: Omeprazole 20mg Capsules | Drugs.com
