Galas are nice too, though I tend to prefer tartness over sweetness when it comes to apples. Granny Smiths are about the best for making apple pies out here but yeah, you can't beat a Bramley for a nice pie.

I suppose my absolute favourite apples though, come in cans that say 'Strongbow' on them

Only bottles, rather than cans, but it'll do. 3 months time I'll be able to buy my son his first proper pint of cider in my old local though ...

Has it changed? All I find recently is some bollocks called "Gold". It's "improved", which apparently means "sweeter". Which sort of misses the point somewhat.

I've been getting by on Redds Apple Ale.

It is a little sweeter but it does the job at a pinch.

I haven't tried the Redd's Apple Ale yet.

Give it a try. It's actually pretty good. Goes down a bit too easily.

I shall give that a go next time I'm getting the beers in.

I hope my kids don't think English food is too weird. The eldest is a bit of a fussy eater. Unfortunately I won't be in Birmingham this time, where I had the most amazing curry, and I have eaten a lot of curries. It was probably one of my more expesnive curries, around £30 a head with no drinks.

The fussy eater probably won't like curries, but a nice fish supper should be just fine.

I wasn't sure if my son would like curry the first time he came over to the UK, when he was 8, but he devoured it like it was about to disappear.
