Default Facebook,Pinterest,Twitter,et al

Who finds these sites interesting ,useful etc.? Who finds that they are annoying ,time wasting and sometimes alarming?.

I was on FaceBook when it first started but quickly became bored with the stream of self congratulatory ,narcissistic rubbish that i was supposed to comment on.It took me two weeks to find a way to leave. I did, but was told it could never be permanent. I would only have to respond to a post and all my details would come back. They owned everything I had ever put on there, including photo's.

I later learned from a friend that my profile is in fact still on there.

I wonder why others aren't a little more alarmed at this.? The enormous amount of time these sites waste for starters. The obsessive behaviour ..(I know ..I can talk ..I'm on here aren't i )

A friend emailed me from NL to tell me how shocked she had been when visiting a favourite little town in Belgium. She found half the lovely little shops boarded up. Ditto some in the fantastic city of Antwerp. This is being repeated everywhere. Our obsession with everything 'online' is killing our previous lifestyles
So what does it mean?. It seems to me we have been tempted by the great pied piper that is computer world ,to relinquish a lot of those habits which made our lives enjoyable and social.
We no longer wish to have one to one talks. Face to face conversations. We don't even email much anymore. We are not interested in the individual experience . We want the mass approval.
Our shopping experience ,instead of being enjoyable and including coffee's and lunch plus conversation ,are now reduced to waiting for a white van to turn up.Preferable yesterday. and then sending back all the rubbish that looked so good online. Thus cluttering up our overcrowded roads with--white vans. CHEAP is our new god.
what say you?

P.S The forum seemed quiet.. yes I am bored.

Never did FB. Used to like Twitter, but there's just too much tweeting now. I do like Instagram as I like viewing the fabulous photos so many people post, and following the odd minor famous person.

Retail is going online, but there's no reason town centres can't continue to become coffee, gym, healthcare area. Maybe some small scale food producers too.

They have some of the smartest minds on the planet, working on how to make us addicted. Good that you turned it off.

I do FB, I'm an Admin on a very busy FB page, have never done Pinterest, isn't it all 'mummies' doing weird things with branches to make a room look twee or some such nonsense? Hate Twitter. Use Messenger and Whatsapp a lot.

Depends what you want to get out of it.

FB, handy for keeping up with friends and family and work related news.

Twitter/LI, mostly for work as I don't follow family/friends.

I don't bother with the others.

You don't think an online gym will catch on?

Come on, work that hand, right click 2-3-4, left click 2-3-4

I resisted all of them for years. My friends urged me to join but I just saw no need for it.

Did finally end up joing FB, only because my buddies are thousands of miles away, so it is nice to keep in touch. Am not on Twitter, Instagram or any others.

I am on Pinterest because it is a usefull utility to find pictures of whatever. And usually when I am searching for a piece of machinery or rat-rod , there's always Pinterest links featured in the Google image search.

I used Pinterest to get pictures of rat-rods, custom bikes, resto-mods, fabrication machinery, tattoo designs, Art-Deco posters, steampunk designs.

Looks like now ED is expecting a baby in December I will be forced onto FB just to see the latest pics. .. She also has her business pics on Pinterest which I would find interesting.I think . I agree though,The further away you are (she is in the USA) The more it becomes necessary

I just find it all so 'cold' and more than a bit narcisitic ..The 'look at me aren't I so interesting, self involved etc. I can throw all this at you and not have to actually communicate with you. Then there is the 'too much communication of Twitter' That our leaders are using it ,is frankly terrifying

I'm getting old I guess.

I use FB easy way to keep up with family back home, and connect with others I don't see/talk to often.

Also a lot of local buy/sell groups which have largely replaced classifieds and online sites like craigslist are becoming less popular around here, even some small business use FB as their primary source of advertising/info instead of a website.

Twitter, I have one, never used it and haven't signed in in eons.

I don't use snap chat, instagram, pinterest etc.
