Default Re: The NFL

Kansas City v Oakland last night; KC snuck a win, but the general standard was erratic. Three needless turnovers, and an equally needless (and unsuccessful) red-flag challenge. Mercifully, not too many penalties. I think it was the number of penalties at the beginning of the season that was largely responsible for the drop-off of viewers. The NFL needs to change a couple of its rules, for the game to become more popular.

Me too. The thing is, that New England has such great coaches. Brady is excellent, of course, but besides him I think it's a fairly ordinary team (yes, Beckham, but most teams have a Beckham) superbly coached. Well, we'll see. There's no dog of mine in the fight, so I may not watch the whole game.

That was a great rendition of the National Anthem.

Sigh. Mixing up my teams here. I meant Edelman. Who, it happens, is having a dodgy night tonight.

For those who like to read about American Football... I've just been reading - for the second time in a year - a super little book by John Grisham called "Playing for Pizza". The story is about a washed-up NFL QB who finds himself in Italy playing the game there. It's fun to read, and I strongly recommend it. Not the usual Grisham fare, I assure you!

Prediction for the Super Bowl: New England v Dallas, NE to win. Does anybody disagree?

I think GB could take Dallas, especially if Rodgers has another game like he did yesterday. Ok, so the Giants defense was all over the place, but damn, that Hail Mary was bloody inch perfect! its difficult to see past NE this year though. Cheating wankers!

Yes, the Hail Mary was spectacular, but before that Rodgers had a poor game. Sacked three times so badly (including the intentional grounding) in the first half that GB lost three chances of a field goal - all because AR didn't throw the ball away in time. He's an excellent QB, but not quick enough with his releases to beat Dallas, I think. I very much hope I'm wrong!

Not exactly going out on a limb, are you...?!

Those two would be my prediction too, but I'd have the Seahawks & Steelers as outside bets. Seattle are always hard to beat.

I was a Falcons fan long before moving to the Carolinas so will be backing them into the playoffs.

From past experience I just expect the worst.

Their defence isn't strong enough to go all the way, put too much pressure on Matt Ryan & the offence to keep scoring points.

New England v someone. Pains me to say so, but I almost hope the Packers will sneak in, just to piss off all the Lions fans who were circlejerking over their season this year.

So another team says a big FU to its fans, ups sticks and leaves. This time it's the Chargers. I wonder if LA can sustain 2 teams.
