It's just strange. I'm not getting "you can't play this content in your area" type stuff, the app just won't launch. It starts, I get a couple of second of splash screen, and then it crashes and gives me the stupid message.

Just send me a bill for 145 quid or whatever the license is and I will happily pay it, and stop messing about with software

I registered via a VPN in UK. Used my old postcode, accepted no problem.

My iPlayer would not start today on my Kodi box and it closed with an unhelpful error message. I opened iPlayer in a browser on another machine and went through the sign in page which then fixed iPlayer on my Kodi box. I assume therefore that, despite what they say, the BBC is implementing "something" at IP address level.

Maybe. I don't know nearly enough about that sort of thing. They are going to be asking everyone to sign in soon, irrespective of where they live. None of it really makes much sense. Why not just ask people to enter their license numbers?

Just don't stream any Premier League football games.

"In a statement, the Premier League said that it had supported Thai police in efforts to crack down on the illegal use of Kodi and IPTV boxes.

"The Premier League is currently engaged in its largest ever programme to protect its copyright and the legitimate investment made by its broadcasting partners.

"Their contribution allows our clubs to develop and acquire players, invest in facilities and support the wider football pyramid and communities - all things that fans enjoy and society benefits from."

In March, the Premier League secured a court order in the UK that gave it the means to block computer servers used to host illegal streams.

At the time, a spokesman said the organisation was prepared to target pirates in a "precise manner".

Apparently iPlayer is going over to a signup model, you'll have to provide a login a password to use it.

Iplayer isnt allowed to use a signup or charge, use abroad will technically always be outside licensing conditions but they are implementing a login requirement for which you have to give a name, an address with a tv license, their terms already say they share info with the licensing peope. Technically if you have the right vpn it works anywhere but the furst rule of good vpn club is you never talk about it and believe me, whats online is highly biased...

I've been using a sign in for iplayer for months. It keeps track of all my shows.

Yep me too, all they asked was e-mail address and postcode. Same with ITV and Channel 4,
gave my old postcode, hope they don't check up on Mr Singh.

It really is about time the broadcasters and the movie studios/distributors recognised the world has changed.

The music world ended up accepting the fact. Tape decks and twin tape decks with recording capability and high speed dubbing made it so easy to copy music.

They fought a losing battle but instead of continuing the fight they adjusted to the new reality and now they charge people for downloading the tracks they want so that the choice is no longer buying a whole album or getting someone to tape the tracks you want.

On Saturday Doctor Who finished in the UK at 8.15. 4.15pm my time. Within an hour of it finishing I had it downloaded and saved from one of 16 different links shown on a single website, ready for watching at my leisure.

As it happens, I pay for Space TV channel which does broadcast the show, so the BBC will get paid something for it. But this way I get to choose when I watch and I don't have to sit through the commercials.

The BBC could cut out the middle man as it were and charge me directly instead.

Currently I'm able to watch BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 using Tunnel Bear. They all require you to sign in, just use a UK postcode and your done.
So far So good.
I'm able to run a HDMI cable from my PC to the TV and watch on large screen TV.
