Default my laptop is driving me mad!!!

Hi all computer experts....

So about a week or so ago my laptop display changed, well more than just the display but I will explain later. I don't know what I did, other than update the BBC iplayer, but uninstalling it has not set things back!

So the problem - all the desktop icons are huge, the fonts have changed, all the text is huge too. But it isn't just on the display, when I open excel, word etc, the toolbar has huge icons too, nothing fits in the window anymore!

Now on windows 8, you can't change the default font in control panel and everything seems the same as it always has been...

But if I create a new user, as an admin, and login with that login, everything is set up the way it was for me, icons are small and the font is correct and excel looks right.

So it must be a profile thing, but how do I change my profile without losing all the items set up under my profile. So I don't have a new login, no favourites, no software set up etc etc

I hope this all makes sense, like I said, I don't think I did anything. I suppose I could have pressed a weird combination of buttons by mistake, but I have no idea what I could have done. I have seen something like this when I have used an external display, but I wasn't doing that.....

Any help, as always, would be really appreciated. I have tried various things from internet, but nothing works!! I don't really want to delete my profile...

Thanks loads

I never ran Win8, I went from 7 to 10, so no first hand experience on this.

Can you get to display properties in control panel? If so, check out resolution and also scaling if that's available.

Do a system restore, using a restore point from a few days before the changes took place.

I can get to control panel, but everything I have tried to do through control panel makes no changes to the problem. So, the icons stay the same huge size and the font is just wrong - it's not so much the size as the font itself - the characters are thin and seem to have a shadow. And that font is now used everywhere, in Firefox, in office products - it's the font used for the toolbars and the menus now! Also, as I said, the icons in the toolbar for office products are also huge!

I really appreciate everyone's help, it must be as frustrating for you all as it is for me to keep suggesting things that don't work. I wish there was a simple way to copy a profile - the underlying set-up for a profile that is, but keep all my settings for the desktop, access to the applications I use etc. But although there is a tutorial for copying, the copy button is always greyed out!

I don't really want to set up a brand new login for me.....

Driver must be ok or it would affect all profiles, but it sounds like you have your display resolution set too low. What do you see in your display settings?

Failing that, anything in Accessibility options inadvertently turned on?

So I checked the Accessibility options, which seem to be Ease of Access in windows 8.1 - all are turned off except under other options both Play animations in windows and Show windows background are on. I also double checked display settings and it is set to 1366 x 768 (recommended) and Landscape. 1366 x 768 is the highest setting, so I think it is correct....

It is! I googled the problem before I asked here and it is mentioned a lot, but everything suggested doesn't work! I think my only option is to delete my user account, create a new one and see if that fixes it. Because I can't work out how to copy a profile....

I think I will have to check my backups first

Login as a different user with admin permissions. Then COPY the profile in c:\users\. Right-click, copy, then paste it into the same folder. That will create a 'copy of' folder.
Then delete the profile and recreate. That way, you have a copy of your documents, desktop icons, favorites, etc. which you can copy to your new profile.
