Default Fire Stick, Roku TV, or Apple TV?

I am planning to buy my parents one of the above so they can save money by cancelling their cable TV subscription. I have both a fire stick and a roku TV. The fire stick can be glitchy, but the Roku TV works great for me. I plan on avoiding the Fire stick altogether, but I wanted to know if anyone could compare Roku TV and Apple TV? Which one is worth investing in over the other.

I have both and I prefer the Roku.

Someone will be along shortly to tell you the opposite.

I think it depends on the Roku, I've got the cheapo stick and prefer the Apple TV as the Roku remote kept getting unpaired. Though I also have the Apple TV on a newer better TV so it's probably an unfair comparison.

Premiere+ (as I wanted Ethernet). Straight comparison here as the Apple TVs are hard wired also.

Apple TV will soon support Amazon content also, so fire-stick not so essential any more.

As im guessing its for a non techie user, roku, unless they have apple ipads or macbooks in which case apple will suit them better because they can have vpn and play so much on apple devices and cast the screen to the tv, only with an apple tv.

NB some recommend 2 roku boxes, one with a uk account the other setup with us, as the content differs so much.

If you have two Roku boxes (1 UK, 1 US), do you have to alter your router DNS settings every time you switch between viewing countries or is the configuration done on the Roku?

I have a Roku and use it a lot.

One thing though is the content is a bit meh. I only really ever use it for Netflix, Youtube and Tunein. Nowt else on it is any good.

I dont know but i suspect you do. You definitely need it on when setting it up. However if you are using a decent vpn service this can be a single click.

I wouldnt rely on a dns facility, its too easily defeated.

UK channels are not available via Apple TV. The best subscription services are Netflix and Amazon, Amazon being expected before the end of the year as a new addition. It's not likely that this will be available on 3rd generation Apple TV or older. Some people have success using a VPN service. You might want to go over to the Canada section and ask the real experts for your country.
