I'd go back to work for corrections if they did job share!
Not too sure I fancy working the shite shift system full time.

They are changing the shift system and are trialing 10 hour shifts , 3 on 3 off 4 on 4 off , we also have people who do permanent nights , so no night watch, things are changing and for the better.

Management have very recently got rid of it because night staff had "no prisoner contact and were losing their skills".

Re: More prison officers wanted
the shifts ain't too bad, I work either 7-4 or 8-5's on a 7 on 2 off then 8 on 4 off pattern.
There are the occasional 1-9 shifts but they are very rare for me and most staff at Waikeria.
Personally I'm not in favour of the 10 hr shifts, during summer I can still spend time after work
doing my own thing but on a 10 hr shift thats going to go out of the window.
I dont understand why they struggle to attract staff, its a great job, as long as you dont get involved
with all the internal politics and moaning would be managers

Most Waikeria shifts are 7 days on (0600-1400), 2 off, 8 days on (1400-2200), 4 off ... unless they've changed recently.

How about we let this thread be about possible jobs for people wishing to emigrate ? Not how you perceive the Job ! Let people make their own minds up ?

I made a comment that I felt was pertinent to the thread, people may want to know what shifts are involved at different jails.
You came back with a comment giving the wrong impression of the shifts we work.
yeah lets leave it

......and so I have now made a correction and moved this thread to a correct place. Job Offers.
As far as I am aware you are all or have been Corrections / Prison officers, so it's a helpful thing to discuss the practical aspects & even the work experience of the occupation here in New Zealand for those overseas people looking in.

I am a current serving prison officer in the Uk and would like to find out more. Is there some one I can contact directly.

Re: More prison officers wanted in New Zealand
Couple questions. my daughter is dual citizen US/UK. Currently in college in USA. She plans on becoming a corrections officer in US after 2 yr US college degree in corrections studies. Just wondering what the citizenship requirements are for a CO position in NZ. She has mentioned she is interested in living in NZ. She is 19 so no experience yet.
Thanks for any input anyone may have.
