Re: work in japan
You can probably check the Japanese government website (if they have an English translation) to be sure. This website is helpful: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2221.html
As a UK visitor, you have the possibility of extending your stay to up to 6 months.
To work, you'll need a work permit.
Good luck.

You'll need a sponsor to get a working visa, and the application process will probably take a few weeks. Many language schools will sponsor you, but will probably not want to offer you a contract for less than a year. To enter Japan with intent to work you'll need to apply to your local Japanese embassy with the right documentation, again that won't happen overnight.
Last time I looked entry to Japan on a tourist visa was 3 months, extendable to 6 months - you can't work legally, but employers are more likely to sponsor you if you are in Japan already and then you can change your visa.
