Default Just moved to Japan

Hi there,

I've just moved to Tokyo. I'm 28 and single and i'd like to meet with other British/US/European ex pats. I'm easy going, really into sport, socialising & exploring so it would be good to find a relaxed group of new friends to spend evenings and weekends with.

It would also be great to hear your stories & experiences on expat life!

I hope you are out there to help me?

Hopefully speak soon

Rich

To be honest as a gaijin you stick out like a sore thumb so it's pretty easy to make friends with other expats or Japanese who want to socialise with foreigners. Are you living by yourself or with others? Living in a gaijin house, even for a short time, is usually a very good way to make friends. Are you working/studying/other?

That sounds like an interesting option but i already have accommodation - I am living alone and working over here.
I've heard people say the same thing but I haven't seen many westerners around so was hoping this forum would allow me to meet a few people.

Hi Rich,

There are expat groups to be found through gaijinpot.com and the group Expats in Japan in LinkedIn. Also check out the British style pubs like the Aldgate in Shibuya. If you are into cycling, see Byron Kidd's blog at tokyobybike.com.
You should find that you are invited to many parties after work by Japanese work colleagues and you may make local friends. If you will be in Japan long term, try to learn the lingo - it will endear you to them
