Default Baby Dairy Free Diet

Hi,

Has anyone any ideas of what product and where we can can buy dairy free products?

Our 2 year old seems to have an intolerance to lactose and coughs all night when he as so much as a sliver of butter on his toast!!
Normal cows milk, yogurts, butter, cheese, etc - all gone out of the window and now he's on Soya milk.

Any suggestions of where we can buy other food stuffs to substitute what he's missing out on?

Where are you? Here in Lombadia, Esselunga, Carrefour and Coop all sell soya products. Also the Health Food Shops all have diary free milks and yogurts. Good luck!

Have you checked if soya is OK, this will make you like easier.

Our little boy is off both milk and soya so we have to be careful when the family are out visiting.
Cant really help as the missus does the shopping and they dont spend alot of time out here.

Not a Doctor, just and allergy afflicted family. Just a cough a night doesn't really point to lactose intolerance. Usually you'd have nausea, bloating, tummy pain and smelly, loose stools. A cough at night could just be enlarge adenoids /tonsils and is very common in younger children. What does you doctor say? And BTW if he is intolerent , bread frequently contains milk protein.

He's been to the doc's several times and has had this cough probably for 6 months and we could never shift it!!
Lots of sleepless nights!!

The doctor prescribed anti-biotics, cough medicines but nothing really worked we tried taking milk butter etc out of his diet and within a week there was a big improvement.

So, now he's been on soya for the last few weeks and he's been sleeping through pretty well for some time.
Last week we let him have some ice cream and that night he was coughing again all night!!!

He's been a bad sleeper since he was a tiny baby but this cough has been consistent for about 6 months and it not only his sleep that it effects. So, we pretty sure that change in diet is helping him with his cough.

Fresh ice cream? I can eat cornetto and things like that, but fresh ice cream..............I might as well eat it sitting on the loo. Seriously though, milk protein is in a LOT of things and not just milk and butter etc. So check all labels. Unfortunately, I can't drink soya either. I'm actually better off with skimmed milk, but not a UK one. It's not skimmed enough.
