Re: Watching english tv in Italy
If anyon'es interested there is also a very good FREE RADIO i-padd app just called The Radio, and so you can listen to The Archers, Woman's Hour or anything to your heart's content.
All BBC stations (including regional) plus private ones like Heart, Classic FM, Absoloute and all them.
Still haven't found a way to get the BBC iplayer to work on the pad yet tho...

You need to sign up to a UK VPN and then put in the relevant details in the iPad settings.

I generally watch the catch up programmes on my laptop through expat shield, but if someone could tell me how to watch them on my ipad in laymens terms that would be fantastic!

Expat Shield currently doesn't work on the iPad therefore you'll need something else similar but you'll have to pay for it. Something like Hidemyass is a VPN service. I like the name. Once you've signed up to that, it's fairly simple to set up a VPN on the ipad. You may have done it already to connect to a work network. You just go to settings, general, network, add VPN. Obviously you will need the info provided by the VPN, i.e. server name, password, etc. but usually there'll be a step by step guide. It is quite straight forward. This only needs to be done once because in future you just have to go to the settings and switch the VPN on or off.
If you use your ipad a lot in unsecured wi-fi zones such as bars, shopping centres, etc. where there is no security then it's a good idea to always leave the VPN on because its encrypted and fairly safe.
See above. Sign up to a VPN (virtual private network) that has a UK server, enter the details of that VPN server (simple stuff like username, password, etc - all the info will be supplied by the VPN provider) on the ipad and Bob's your uncle.
Yes it's free but supported by advertising. I personally don't like it because of it's interference with web searches, etc. plus some of the pop-up adverts occasionally are porn-related. Which ain't so bad but not so good if there are kids around. And I mean kids around you, not in the adverts!

Well if you want free you need to use Expat Shield and watch iPlayer on your laptop or PC.
You could get the US version of Expat Shield called Hotpot Shield for the iPad instead. This gives access to the US TV networks only but at least it gives security for open wi-fi zones.

I watch some British TV but its so awful most of the time, I think TV is running out of ideas all round, I used to watch things like CSI and Law and Order on my sky but its just the same old thing, programs like Benidorm on ITV does anybody really watch that? even stuff some people raved about like Morse was like the wooden tops , how many Opera singers really get killed?, anyone could write something better than the bilge on TV, how can people watch talent shows? it was better when Hughie Green did it at least we all knew it was rubbish then, I blame it on when men used hair gel it seeped into their brains, loose women give me a machine gun, should be called old slappers, even the news is brainwashing, I have sky movies never watched a film right through, I don't think good films are made either , 3D sit with silly glasses on! , my advise take up a hobby

I just changed over to Vodafone landline from Infostrada (which I'd had for years and years), but now Filmon is just soo slow and it's impossible to watch anything. Gah!
Never mind, it lasted a week! Glad I didn't buy the 40 odd euro cable for TV hook up.
