In at the deep end!

I'm an airline pilot who has the opportunity to work in Bergamo. I'm just starting to get my head around the property buying system and wonder if there is anybody here who can offer me some pointers about the common pitfalls and best way of avoiding them.

Specifically any information on obtaining a mortgage and finding a house in the hills north of the airport?.

All the web sites I've found so far seem to cater for the 'tourist' areas, I see myself (and the dog) living a bit further off the trail!
