Teaching English
I have been both a university lecturer and high-school teacher during my career, teaching Latin and French, not English; but several friends of mine in Siracusa have suggested I should teach English -- and some Italian contacts have actually asked me to teach them. I feel I could do that, but have no idea what text-books are used to teach English to Italian students.
I realise that anyone reading this will be a native English speaker, but some of you might also teach English, or know what text-books others use. Most of my students will want to speak, rather than to read Dickens, so any text suggestions based on the modern spoken language would be helpful.

Re: Teaching English
Im sure they will - anything to avoid paing for lessons! There are lots of resources online for teaching. Dont use text books - they want to listen and speak not read - the basics they will have done at school.

Re: Teaching English
The text-book provides a sequence which I otherwise have to invent new, together with the basic grammatical structures of the language. My plan is to build vocabulary by using my own Italian vocabulary builders in reverse: they are organised by topic and so for any student I can focus on the topics most likely to be useful. That's why I asked anyone who is an English teacher, or knows what textbooks are used here, to suggest a solution.
