Self Employment

Re: Self Employment
Definitely agree with Linsead as it's best to employ a commercialista for these things. I was told that if you earn over 7000 euros in one year you must legally contributr to INPS, ask your commercialista about paying tax as there may be small business incentives!?! No doubt these things are set to change next week when the elections take place. What a nice venture!

Re: Self Employment
Hello
I am new to this site, but wondered if I could pick a few brains please. Myself and my husband are pet sitters, and we have a small web page. Although we have been in Italy for 6 years, it is only in the last year or so that our business is doing well. We had our own income to live on and pay for rented accommodation, My concerns are, can you earn a certain amount per person before paying tax ? Also we have been told that we need to apply for an IVA number, but everyone tells us something different. A commerliasta told us we can apply for contribuento minimo ? but she said even though we are both fully paid up with NI contributions in UK, we still have to pay INPS here of around 3000 Euros per year. When we went to register for residency we went three times, and each time of course we got told something different. We did get some paperwork, which enabled us to buy a car,but no one came to check at our home. I don't want to open a can of worms, but don't want any large fines that we cant pay. Most of our clients are regulars, but most jobs last for between 1-10 days, and the work can be seasonal. Any advice would be welcomed, and sorry for the long post Carol

Re: Self Employment
hi Linseed
Thanks for your reply, our heads our bursting, we have seen after much research a Commerliasta who is English and married to an Italian accountant and they live in Uk. Don't suppose anyone one here has any recommendations for one lol ???? No we are not in Abruzzo,
Its still a bit like, do we open a can of worms or not ?? I have various English friends in the doggy world in Italy that have lived here 25 years and never had an IVA, and they do sell things........
Happy New Year

Its a can of worms. Depending if you have dependents and so on you can earn around 6000 tax free, except that it isnt tax free, because you still have to pay someone to do your accounts and submit them. I would think (no proof) that you wont need a partita IVA for petsitting, and if that is the case you wont have to pay the minimum INPS, but do it as prestazione occasionale with your codice fiscale. But it needs to be occasional - 3 or 4 a year at most. If you bought a car, and have a Carta didentia then you have residency, and must fill in tax returns by law, even if you have no income. From 1 Jan 2014, any money held overseas must be declared on the RW section of your form - its going to get very silly.....

Re: Self Employment
thank you for your reply. It certainly is a minefield. Perhaps if we just cared for the dogs, and accepted a fee for providing the food, and shelter, and not be a small business ? I don't know...... everyone tells you something different. What confuses me is that me and hubby have fully paid up NI contributions and so we qualify for our pensions in the next few years. We also have a small private pension each, so wont be reliant on ItalIAN pension scheme, do we still have to pay in ??
