Default secondary education in tuscany

Hello, I hope someone can help me. Im hoping to move to the valley of Lucca and cant seem to find an international school for my daughter who is 12. Most of the schools in Lucca and around seem to be up to the age of 12. She doesnt have any italian so I dont have any choice but to fork out for private education. Thank you in advance.!

Someone asked the same question last year, and none was found. As far as I can see there is no international/ English language secondary school in Lucca or nearby.

Tweedpipe gave good advice in the thread last year though.

There is no international school in Lucca. She is 12 so in scuola media - going back a yearshe would get help through her first year in learning Italian in a state school, and then be up to speed for liceo linguistico or whatever she chose later on. Its late for thisyear though - you sort these things out in February usuallly.

Hi Shareena. My son came here at 12 and didn't speak italian. We decided to put him in the local school. As Modicasa says, they put him back a year and that way he had time to learn the language before going on to Secondary school. It's not easy at first but I think she'd make friends easily and pick up a lot by being with them.

Very good advice from Patty. I read somewhere (but hope to be corrected) that after age 13 its harder to learn a language but I'm unsure if that is the same if you are resident or not. Start learning now. My daughter loved DuoLingo App which is just a good starting point to play on your phone and give you some grounding.

Duolingo is quite impressive for a free app.
