Default Registering british birth certificate at anagrafe

Hi. I've been in Rome for a lifetime, but having problems knowing how to translate my birth certificate for the anagrafe to transcribe it. They keep asking for a consulate translation, but the embassy hasn't done translations for about 15 years!
Any advice??

I don't think it needs a consulate translation, they're being awkward or ignorant. I've done translations of this kind and had them "asseverate" at the Tribunale. Maybe you can ask a translation agency about it.

Thanks Jonwel. I discovered that first I have to send the certificate to the Foreign Office in the Uk to be legalised. I had thought of doing the traduzione giurata myself, as I've done them for others in the past, but it may seem kind of illicit, so I'll get someone else to sign. After that I'm told I have to get it countersigned by the Prefettura! What a waste of time and money -doesn't seem like modern Europe, does it?! Thanks for youy advice.
