Opening a bank account..
As Brits moving to Italy, what documents would we need to open Banco Poste accounts?
Do you do this at any post office or only larger ones? Do you need to make an appointment?
Thanks

Can't comment on Banca Posta but from memory I only needed proof of ID, which was my passport at the time.
I'm with Sparkasse and they didn't require you to be resident but quite a few banks do, so that's something to check.

you should need your codice fiscale - original copy from the tax office, not a generated version from a website. And your passport. you will be opening a non resident account which is not possible now in some banks.

Banco Poste only did resident accounts last I looked. Where you open one would be your base posta, so ensure it's near where you intend to live.

We took passports and codice fiscale when we opened our bank account. We have a non-resident one with Unicredit. We had to have a telephone number to get our debit cards and bank on-line

Was it a mobile number you needed to have two factor authentication? I suspect most banks will be doing this soon, but it's easy to buy a payg sim in Italy, just sometimes a little difficult to get reception and keep it from running out.

Yes, we have a SIM card from IWind pay as you go which has been fine. Needed passports and codice fiscale to buy that.

Thanks for your help.
We go to the bank tomorrow armed with documents, phone numbers and great hopes that we will be able to move our euros to Italy next week!

Best of luck with the bank account, do hope it's not for the final payment and that you have a bankers draft already arranged...

Re: Opening a bank account..
Hi
We (husband and wife) have just bought a place near Ravenna and plan to move out permanently in January. You must be thinking what idiots and yes unfortunately for us we chose the wrong time and has hit us but no turning back now. Current issue is trying to get any form of bank account. No bank we have approached wants to open a non resident account yet to get a resident bank account we have been informed that we need documents on paper from the comune to show we are residence and an italian photo identity card, even though we have tried to explain with limited italian that we would not have such a card. We have tried both online accounts (i.e. Hello) too with no luck. Does anyone have any advise. We would rather have a cheap account and have looked over the forum for many years. We have yet to go to the comune to fully registered - as such, would this overcome our difficulties? If so what list of documents do we need for the comune? Thanks John & Georgina

Re: Opening a bank account..
We have opened our account at Banca Marche with very little fuss, although about 70 signatures on forms. This is a non-resident account with online access and a debit, ATM card free (a second we have at 30 cents a month). There are charges for 'in bank' transactions. We needed NI Number, passport, driving licence, codice fiscal, mobile telephone number and email address. Just waiting for the email so we can go online and start working with it. We had some help from our agent and a couple of English speaking bank staff which was also very useful. I think there is a branch in Ravenna...HTH
