Local taxes
We received our bill for our local taxes before Christmas. They came to our UK address. Am conscious we need to pay and are in UK at present. Am wondering of there's anyone in the Castiglione del Lago area who could tell us if we are able to pay on-line? Also going to email the bank to see if we can pay via them. Any info will be gratefully received with thanks

I would just pay in person at the commune next time you visit. It takes months before our commune sends a reminder.

Re: Local taxes
Hi. We were aware of the local taxes, but can anyone advise how we register for them (in person at commune or email or either), we are not planning on filling for residency until 6 months, although completed in October 2016, does this make a difference? Thanks

Re: Local taxes
If we are talking local taxes as in IMU and TASI, then these are payable currently by none residents ot on a second home. They are kind of like the equivalent of council tax in the UK. TARI (rubbish collection) is payable by almost everyone and you should get a bill for it. Most cmune I know of do NOT issue bills for IMU and TASI, you are expected to know the amount and pay it. Fines apply if paid late, small at firtst but can grow very big!

Re: Local taxes
Hi. Sorry rubbish collection. It is our prima casa, so how do the commune know we are living there if not registered yet? Apologies if we sound stupid. And if they dont send a bill how do we get one or find out the cost? Thanks

Re: Local taxes
No you dont sound stupid, it's all new to everyone when they start out. If you have bought a house it would be registered (or should have been) at the comune it is part of. In any case umless it's a large place they will know you are there and likely everything about you... Not sure you can have prima casa if you are not resident or intending to get it, therefore house taxes would be due either way. Sure someone esle will clarify this for you. As TARI (rubbish) I'm sure they were supposed to send bills to people now. One thing that does come to mind is that some comune dont charge for this if you are not living there... This link can be used to calculate these taxes.

Re: Local taxes
Thanks Geordieborn. We have our tari which our estate agent said we could pay when we next go - hopefully next month. Would really like to pay imu and tasi before then. Am going to email our friendly bank contact tomorrow to ask if we can pay through the bank.

Re: Local taxes
A number of people we know of have done this very thing, email the bank and they pay it ... Amazing to me that they do this! We have been fortunate in the past that our bank has had the online facility to pay the F24 house tax bill.

Re: Local taxes
Only Tari we need to know about, been advised that we pay at the post office - how? Do we just walk in and say we want to pay a bill or do we need paperwork to go with it. How do we get the paperwork, as received nothing from the commune (we completed in Oct 2016), and how do we find out the cost, we can't find anything on the commune website either, with exception that you do have to pay for it)? This is currently our only home in the world, so are going through the rigmarole of residency too. Apologies if we are getting easily confused. Just don't want to be lumbered with a heavy fine.

It is the comune office that calculates how much you have to pay and at least in my town, it is the comune that posts the printed bills to my house.
Don't panic about it though as the bill only comes once a year which can either be paid in one lump sum in June or in two parts .... one in June and the second in December.

Re: Local taxes
Thanks to all. Sounds so simple now.... although we have already found out at our little commune they have Brexit on the brain so nothing is simple with us. Although maybe that's just the way it is.

Re: Local taxes
How do you mean Brexit on the brain? In our Commune they think the UK is part of the US.

Re: Local taxes
Nobody gets miraculously registered anywhere. It's up to you, or in some lucky cases, estate agents who will take a copy of your act of purchase to the comune and put you on the system. You will get a bill for your TARI which you pay when is convenient. For your IMU and TASI you can pay by F24 direct from your bank account if you are lucky (and have a resident bank account or some nonres ones) or by SEIFT transfer. However the late payment fines are tiny. Also it depends when you bought, and what day of the month you signed the act of sale as to how much you owe.
