Default holy moly

Il giornale has really excelled itself with this headline:

http:// http://www.ilgiornale.it/new...o-1178586.html
Now i know that il giornale isn't universally reckoned to be the best paper around but can anyone think of another european country where a mainstream newstand paper would think for a second about running such a headline?

Pretty disgraceful headline but then again "our" press published *that* Katy Hopkins article about people drowning in the Mediterranean....

Well i see they have done it again with their islamic bastards headline. Encouraging that this has also created a stir in italy but still profoundly shocking i think that a newstand publication (as opposed to a fringe political hatesheet) should run this stuff. I can't help but think of some of the stuff some mainstream political figures can say and still keep their jobs. Anyone i see reading this rag will get some frank views from me. Anyone know what its circulation is. I know it's not massive.

This is probably the best piece on last weekends attacks and worth watching. Someone should dub it into Italian....

Thanks for that modicasa, though I must admit that I don't find the argument that some of these attacks are freelance, not directly controlled, terribly comforting. A freelance nutter inspired by them can do a hell of a lot of damage with modern weaponry and is of course far harder to "infiltrate", stop.

Was your point that the scumrags Libero and Giornale are helping extremists by fostering ignorant social division?

Ignorant social division is being fostered far more effectively by TV channels such as Rete 4 and others. Newspapers in Italy have very limited readerships.

Good point about newspaper readership figures ononno, which i know were low in italy even before the inroads of the internet.

What sort of stuff has rete 4 been up to?

What are the other "guilty" channels you referred to?

Rete 4's 19:00 news is stuffed with anti immigrant and anti Islamic rhetoric, followed at 20:30 by a programme called 'dalla vostra parte' which is 45 mins of much the same;plus a plethora of local TV channels much the same. Just for the record I don't actually watch them but just flick through their headlines.
I'm busy at that time getting other things done, and recording BBC news and the soaps on film on. The TV is on in the background to keep 'a nonna busy whilst I get her a meal and ready for bed.
