Re: Hi from Peterborough, UK wanna move to Sicily
I reckon 60,000 for a house is on the button for south east Sicily - 60 for an agrumeto is a bit on the high side - you can get one for about 45000 a hectare if you are looking down round noto . and certainly for a lot less in the west or deep south.
Setting up a business is fraught with red tape - you will need qualification you didnt know existed, and then you will need to earn at least twice what you think becuase the state will want all your money - if you are honest. The tax system is iniquitous, you are assumed to be an international criminal until you prove them wrong - you will pay more to your commercialista than you ever thought possible and you will end up with no money - unless you work as Sicilians do....
Having said all that - if you're adventurous then give it a go - Sicily is a great place to be.... With your IT skills you should be able to find a job - your other half less so.

Hello to everyone,
Thank you for all your imput.
More details about us: At the moment I work as a Data Coordinator, I have good IT skills and I know a few languages. My other half works as a Training Specialist in Manufacturing and has an Agricultural apprenticeship.
Ideally we would like to work for ourselves but we dont have a big budget and we dont know how easy is to set up a bussiness or how tax works in Sicily. We are trying to learn the language at the moment as well.
Any advise much appreciated
Thank you
Maddie

Im from Leeds and too am planning to buy in Sicily, in the Cefalu area. PVT me if you would like to share experiences or get in touch, I am from Leeds but recently purchased an apartment in Calabria (near Pizzo), only a holiday home, so will be looking at Sicily as the next place to buy to move to
