Question Having a baby in Italy

Hi
Does anyone know if I have to pay to have a baby in Italy as a British Citizen. My husband is Italian and we are planning to move to Italy. I'm pregnant and we are not sure whether to wait until I have the baby or just go and do it there.

If anyone know about quality of service, I'd really appreciate that as well.

Thanks

I know hospitals and care for your baby are better in UK than in Italy. I personally would make a choice of having it in uk where things are generally easier and a more comfortable.

All the best.

It also means the baby will be British "otherwise than by descent" (if born in the UK) which should make it easier for its own (future) children to claim British citizenship, if they are born outside the UK and its Territories.

It being a three year old thread, I'd hope the baby would be born by now
