Expat group in Rome?
Hi all!
I'm new to the forum. Is there a British expat group that meets up in Rome or organises events? I'd love to hear about it if there is one!
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, and good luck trying to find expat groups! I live in Latina (fortunately not for much longer!) but work funny hours so can only make it into Rome at the weekends Have you just moved to Rome or are you just new to the site?

I'm not new to Rome, just the forum. I've been here for about 18 months, and whilst it is great I miss a lot of things about England too! It would be nice to meet some British people to bring a touch of those things to my life here in Rome

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I guess it's hard to find expat groups then! I have found one, I will go along and let you all know how it is. It's not just British expats though but all nationalities, I beleive.

Anyway, let me know how your expat group goes, I hope it's good and you meet some new and interesting people!
Alternatively, one of the best weekends I've had over here was in Florence - I went on my own (obviously!) and ended up talking to loads of backpackers and random people - was amazing fun as it was the first time I'd had anyone remotely on the same wavelength to talk to. So if in doubt, head up to Florence and start talking to strangers!

Where I was before (Athens) we organised a "jumpers for goalposts" kickabout every week with beer and food afterwards. It became incredibly popular and attracted a great crowd.
I wonder if that kind of thing happens already in Rome or - if not - I wonder if it could be set up?

That is exactly the kind of thing this place needs - I don't play football and I'm scared of the ball hitting me but I'd definitely be up for that!

All we need is a pitch to rent and enough players guaranteed to come each week to pay for it. And someone to coordinate!

It would be great if it could be set up; we had, for example, a simple rule that you could only score from within the penalty box which meant that everyone stopped belting the ball towards the goal at every opportunity.

This sounds very interesting! I guess in the summer whilst it's light late a pitch is less necessary than in the winter. Perhaps a park would do?

I'd be interested at least in joining you for a drink afterwards. Would this be kid-friendly?

Welcome to Italy SachaRoma, I've got a friend staying this week but always up for a drink at the weekends as well! Probably better at having a drink than playing football but I'm up for either!

We should get this organised! I'd be up for drinks as well as football, the latter probably being the most kid-friendly! ;-)
How shall we go about doing this?
