I've given up on Italian weather forecasts: they just seem to adjust the forecast to match what's actually happening at the time. But to be fair it must be more difficult to forecast than in the UK, because of the absence of a prevailing wind amongst other things

Forecasting must be much more complex in a country with as much relief as Italy - all those mountains creating rainclouds/storms (or not) and complex air currents.

Some pretty stark stuff online from the glaciers above the Stelvio - they look to be in a terrible state. No doubt it's partially cosmetic as a result of last week's heat (zero isotherm was at nearly 5,000m last week) but it's also pretty unusual by all accounts for things to be quite so bad up there even in August.

Flew over M.Blanc last week, and the glaciers up there look pretty rough too, especially on the Chamonix side.
