Hi. The only thing I can tell you is that it used to be a much longer, drawn out and expensive process than it is these days, especially if the divorce is consensual .............. is that the right word? It sounds slightly sexy.

Once upon a time it took 3 whole years of legal separation in the courts before you could even apply for a divorce. I could be wrong but I think it's only 6 months now. I can ask a lawyer friend for more details.

Main points to consider:

-were you married in the UK or Italy?
-if married in Italy, were you married with separazione or communione dei beni
-are you divorcing consensuale/with 6 months separation period when both parties agree or contestuale/ longer, costlier, done by the courts
-children support does not end at 18

Have sent you a PM

I'm sorry to hear your question and can offer no advice, but hope that, assuming you're asking for your own benefit, you heal rapidly from an uncomfortable time.
