That's what I meant. The Preston one gives the same quote, but as it is independent they actual charge less if you go in personally. They have an account with parcelforce (only available to firms) and send it through them. As you are sending from Oxford you should look at couriers near the uni. They give better quotes usually. The preston one is also near a campus. I can't remember if anyone else on here comes from Oxford who would be able to give you better indications. Several have used Britishcornershop succesfully but it is pricey. I've also used the good old post office and still do. Everything has always arrived and mum once sent easter eggs by them and they arrived intact., but you have to work out size and weight very carefully or it costs a fortune and it's a bit too late for xmas things now.

Where are you and what sort of things are you looking for? Several of us use specialist on line shops and some things can be bought here.

Which is why I asked what was actually wanted. You know, some people order vacum cleaners.

Milk Chocolate Digestives.....or rather a very good substitute is on sale at my local LIDL - they've only just arrived and are in a packet with the brand name of Sondey - a sort of yellow packet with a photo of milk choc biccies on the front. Having bought them yesterday and done a very important tasting test, I can confirm they are like the real thing

Popped into our friendly African store run by chinese, this morning for some Heinz beans at €1 and they had some of Lorna's salad cream. My pack arrive. Picked up Tues at mid-day delivered Friday early afternoon. Not bad, eh?

Hope you're feeling better Lorna.

We get mcvits digestives in the normal supermarket here....And alot of the bars sell them as well next to the kinder stuff. And the non-chocolate ones...Florence really is cosmopolitan isn't it?

€1 for a tin of beans is good! I think the lowest here is €1.90 and about €4 for a tin of heinz soup! My OH loves salad cream, can't stand it! I had to pay €6 for a bottle for him in the summer!!

What pack?? Just being nosey!

My HUGE xmas goody pack from mum via Mailboxes. The salad cream was €1.90. Prefer mayo myself. Quick wizz in the magimix and it's done. Off to Vicenza tonight for donkey stew + the ever present polenta no doubt.

Why didn't you say? Me and Duffer could have met you. I bet he's not frightened of a bit of donkey.

Cool, she made it to the post office then?! I remember now, duh! Lucky you, enjoy!!

One of the restaurants in Pila called bar Yeti does donkey stew - never had it though!! I love polenta!! I make it a lot, but I really, really didn't like it in Aosta - I cannot stand smoked cheese!! Yurgh! Shame because the polenta itself was nice, bit sloppier than here, plus it tends to get fried up into squares here, very good!

On the subject of Vicenza - I noticed the cheapie Panettone I bought from Pennymarket for €2-something was made in Vicenza, well in the province anyway!! It's very soft and tasty which is why I buy cheap ones 'cos they go really quickly!! Plus I've tried some allegedly handmade by nuns etc. and they are dry and horrid!!
