Car buying(non-resident)

Re: Car buying(non-resident)
As a general response, I am aware of importing costs to portugal and what is required at this side. It's not cheap, but I still reckon an average 4 year old German family car with a 2.0 Diesel engine.... 5k could easily be saved!(yes that's after paying the dubious Portuguese tax but Portuguese prices really are just silly!)
There is a lot to look into at the Italian side... How to check if there is outstanding finance etc and to be honest if things are as Rosie as I have seen price wise perhaps it could be worth considering from a sell on point of view?!
Just to add, thank you all for your input to the thread... Be it positive or negative, I want to see both sides of the coin! Fantastic response!

its not maybe its fact I can take you to see a 35 k car with a seased engine because the owner never checked the oil or changed it after the guarantee ran out and this is the rule rather than the exption

Funny how some people are almost obsessive about cleaning their cars inside and out, but forget about oil and cooling liquid and stuff.
First thing my dad taught me was how to use the dipstick, jump leads etc and check other things.
I know that my mechanics check all kinds of extras for me when my car goes in for its MOT.

the car iam talking about was from the private state of san marino where the rich live and they have ther own no plate and yes some Italians service their cars but most say if its not broke don't fix it and as lorna so rightly saidb they will spend hours cleaning inside and out and sod the oil

Re: Car buying(non-resident)
I tried to buy a lefty in UK and found it very difficult as the foglight and instruments are wrong for MoT.
I got mine from Belgium, pre-registered with zero kilometres - very good price. The dealer was called Cardoen. You could buy from them and import it yourself, or use one of the UK-based importers.
They do second hand cars too.
