AIRE
Anagrafe degli Italiani Residenti all'Estero - Does anyone have any experience of signing up for this? OH has just done this and I'm wondering if he'll receive something in the post to prove registration.

Re: AIRE
My OH did this when we left Italy back in 1988. He then received a newsletter (once or twice a year if I remember) and also info regarding voting from abroad.

Re: AIRE
once your OH is registered on AIRE unless the rules have changed, the comune where is from should send out a recorded delivery letter I can't remember if one needs to send a form back as proof that one now lives abroad.
Once on AIRE one can get documents done at the nearest consulate, south of England is London, north is Manchester and there is one in Edinburgh if I remember correctly. When in Italy one has to go to the AIRE section of the comune for things like ID.
One thing to watch out for, if consulate sends out documents ie voting papers etc no matter if they come too late call the consulate or they will take you off their list and then notify the comune of origin so one ends up belonging nowhere and basically it is a nightmare to get things sorted out again

Thanks Patty and Clint. So he's going to get a letter from Naples then. I wonder how long that will take...Months I reckon.
