AirBnB in Italy

AirBnB in Italy
Interesting article on AirBnB in Italy here. Perhaps not surprising so many people are jumping on the bandwagon, especially in places like Matera where accomodation is perhaps hard to find, and Florence where demand is high..
I'll be having my first experience - as a guest - next month. Anyone else have any experience as guest and/or host?
thanks.

Ive used AirBnB in Naples, and Itlaian hosts are generally very good - only one case of bedbugs, and the owners were mortified, but I guess its a hazard - especially in self catering.

I have a copy of a biography of Janet Ross by Sarah Benjamin. In the book the author talks about the change in the centre of Florence between 1986 and 2006 let alone the change since WW1. I don't think AirB&B can be blamed too much.

lot's of experience in general, several in Italy. All good alternatives to hotels particularly in major tourist cities where one can often get an apartment for the same or less than the price of a hotel room. For instance 3 of us took a modern, full spec., 3 bed apartment just off via Marguta for 3 nights for 400€.

Re: AirBnB in Italy
I have only used AirBnB in Verona and Bolsena but both times were really good. In both cases it was young people who had inherited an apartment from grandparents and they couldn't have been nicer or more professional.
Hope your experience turns out to be as good.

Enjoy it whilst you can. Today's papers carry news of a proposed tax on AirBnB of 25% plus Tassa di Soggiorno. As usual, kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Re: AirBnB in Italy
It's a cedolare secca of 21% and will be paid by the booking agent direct to the fisco. Applicable for properties owned by non residents. If your comune applies the tassa disoggiorno it can be now applied to private houses. Whether you think its killing the goose, or whether its a matter of paying taxes due on earnings, is another matter!

Always had good experiences but equally don't think the new tax on AirBnB properties is necessarily a bad thing - the whole set up seems to have been designed to rent out spare rooms/your house when you're away. It's now being used by people with property empires and seems like a way of bypassing hospitality industry regulation.
